Ennakoivaa, lisäarvoa tuottavaa ohjausta ja huolehtimista kestäväksi, turvalliseksi ja terveelliseksi rakennettavassa Suomessa.

Yhdistys toimii kuntien rakennusvalvontahenkilöstön välisenä yhdyssiteenä, työskentelee rakennusvalvontaan kuuluvien eri alojen ja työmuotojen kehittämiseksi ja yhdenmukaistamiseksi sekä jäsentensä ammatillisen kehityksen edistämiseksi. RTY:n jäsenmäärä vuoden 2020 lopussa oli 700 henkeä.
